The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering.

Your responsibilities include:
- Working on the work packages of the DFG project ImPatienCe (ductile ceramics for patient-specific implants) with the aim of obtaining a doctorate
- Carrying out measurements on ceramic composite materials using laboratory X-ray sources and synchrotron radiation sources: spatially resolved X-ray refraction, computer tomography, and X-ray/neutron diffraction
- Performing electron microscopic measurements (SEM, TEM, EBSD)
- Further development of existing in-situ loading device (X-ray refraction)
- Quantitative data evaluation and consolidation of the results of all methods
- Collaboration with national and international project partners, proactive collaboration with colleagues within and outside BAM
- Written and oral scientific communication (participation in conferences, preparation of reports and scientific publications, documentation of project results, preparation of a dissertation)
- Supervision of students
Your qualifications:
- Completed university degree in physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, or similar
- In-depth knowledge of ceramic materials science
- Knowledge of X-ray imaging techniques: conducting experiments and image processing
- Knowledge of wide-angle X-ray diffraction of crystalline materials and the evaluation of residual stresses: conducting experiments and analyzing WAXD patterns
- The ability to design and adapt existing experimental apparatus is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of programming, software skills (image processing and diffraction data analysis)
- Very good written and spoken English
- Good written and spoken German is an advantage
- Good communication and information skills, initiative/commitment and ability, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn, and conceptual, strategic, and innovative thinking skills
